Lab Assistant

A passion of mine is film photography, and when I go to develop my film, I remember feeling very overwhelmed during the process with so many things to keep track of. I created Lab Assistant as a way to reduce the mental load that is keeping track of exact timings, while still keeping great accuracy. Before your options were:

  • Invest in an old dark room hand clock
  • Count in your head
  • Use a timer on your phone
  • Use other outdated apps that look bad

What Lab Assistant fixes #

You get to keep the accuracy of using a timer, and get the benefits of step by step instructions that apps offer. While not having to worry about carefully clicking a screen through gloves during a time sensitive operation or losing count while counting in your head.

What Lab Assistant offers #

  • Create hands free workflows that automatically time everything
    • Including agitation reminders that display as needed side by side the larger operation step
  • Use tools to easily calculate dilution
  • Track chemicals and see if they are expired
  • Sync via iCloud to create on your phone, and use on a larger display when you need
Download on the App Store

Developer Notes #

This app was really fun, and to use this tool and first hand see how helpful it was in allowing me to worry far less about exact timing (and coming out with great results!!) Navigation is dead simple and just uses Apples TabViews and NavigationStacks with class based destinations.

Note: Development was supplemented through use of generative AI tools. All code was reviewed, and was mainly used to skeleton basic UI and accelerate bug fixing.
